Once upon a time there was a very hungry caterpillar

I remembered that this was my first story told in Dutch. A foreign language to me because I spoke Teochew at home. Surprisingly, I understood what the teacher said. A wonderful nostalgic feeling! I wanted to make something to remind me of that but I could find a proper pattern for it, so I made my own one.
Before starting with the tutorial, please take a look at my Terms of use. There's also Dutch translation online! Good luck crocheting and if you have questions, just ask them. I'm here at your service! ^.-

The sewing
1) Try to pin everything together until you're happy about the position. The colour combination of the body should be (head) 2 light green, 1 dark green, 2 light green, 1 dark, 1 light, 1 dark and 1 light. As you can see, I've pined mine in a wiggly shape.
Don't worry, your caterpillar will shrink in length because of the sewing.
2) When you're done pining, it's time for sewing. We're going to take the parts apart, one by one and sew it on one by one. So let's start with the head, then the body and then the paws.

3) Now take the head, thread the yellow thread of the eye and sew it on to the head and finish off. Do this with the other eye.
4) Take one light green ball, shape it first, pin it into the right position and sew it on the previous ball. When your done, make sure all yarn ends are on top of the back. Because we need the yarn to sew the spikes on.
5) Repeat step 4 but this time with the rest of the bodypart.
The feeler/antenna in purple:
- Chain about 5 or 6 cm. Take your crochet hook and push it in to A and push it out in B.
- Then grap your chains in purple and pull it through B and A.
- Make a knot on one side and then on the other side.
- Make sure the antenna are equally in length and then sew A and B tightly.
6) As you can see, all yarn ends are on top of the back. Now pin the paw and re-position it if needed.
7) Sew the paws onto the body and finish off.
8) Pin a straight line on the back. That's the position of the spikes.
9) Take 3 strands of yarn with the colour red, green and yellow, fold in in two.
10) Push your hook where the pin is and pull through.
11) Remove the pin and make sure it is a big loop so you can pull the ends of that strand of yarn through.
12) Take the yarn that was laying on the back and sew your spikes nice and tight on to the body and finish off. (Click on the picture above for more details)
13) Do this with all the rest of the body. But not the last past of the body.
14) Your caterpillar will look like a hairy beast But don't worry, we are going to give him a little haircut.
15) Take some strands and try to cut it in shape. Do not cut it too short or he'll be bald. ^^ And if it's too long you can still cut it a little shorter.
After the hard work your caterpillar is finished!
Why don't you post me your result! That would make me so happy!
Have a nice day!
